How to Wear a Face Mask Properly

1 commentaire

Since the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the most discussed topics related to face masks have been – should I wear a face mask? Does a cloth face mask protect me from getting the virus? Where do I get facemasks? How do I make a face mask? And the list goes on. If you’re still looking for answers to all these questions, check out our other two blog posts - we hope they are helpful to you.

In this blog post, we are going to show you a few tips on how to properly wear a cloth face mask, particularly face masks with a filter pocket, ties and nose wire.

OUR FACE MASKS

SUTAI BU Face Masks Embrace Universal Features

  • Plastic free (no elastic)
  • Adjustable with the use of ties instead of elastic
  • Full coverage of face with the use of pleats
  • Hidden non-tarnish nose wire to get you the best fit and seal the gap between your face and the mask
  • Zero waste during the production process with no waste left behind.

Each fabric-based mask is recommended to be changed every 3 hours for its maximum effectiveness.

WASH BEFORE WEAR

Whether you received the masks from a friend or you made it yourself, you will always want to wash them before actually wearing them. You never know what the mask has gone through, like if it picked up dirt or virus along the way of assembly, so the safest thing is to wash them.

Wash your hands before putting on your masks.
This step allows you to be sure your clean mask is not picking up any contaminants on your hands that could transfer to your face while putting it on.

Recommendation on how to wash our mask
Hand wash or machine wash cold with gentle detergent and like colors.* Do not bleach. Drip dry or tumble dry low. Medium heat iron as needed.

Watch Out When Drying and Ironing.
If you are using our mask, note that the hidden nose wire we use is non-tarnish, but it’s not heat resistant, so if you are ironing it or throwing it into the dryer, be careful not to burn yourself.
*We recommend putting the mask into a mesh garment bag to protect the straps from getting caught during wash.

Fabric-based mask is only an alternative option.

INSERT FILTER MATERIALS

Do this step with clean hands.
If you have purchased or received our double layer mask as a gift, there’s an opening on the inside of the mask. Place your desired filter materials within the layers (pocket).

FILTER OPTIONS

HEPA filters
3 Layers of Coffee Filter
2 Layers of Paper Towel

STEP ONE
Find pocket opening.

STEP TWO
Filter material should be at least 2 layers thick. Fold filters into right size, it should fit the pocket close to all 4 corners.

STEP THREE
Slide in filter material into all 4 corners of mask.

STEP FOUR
Final adjustments to make sure filters are flat in place.

The benefit of using a fabric-based mask is that it can be reused over and over .

ADJUSTABLE EAR LOOPS

Let’s face it: we all want our things to be quick and easy, and it is no different when putting on a mask. We chose to use fabric ties over elastic for adjustability and durability reasons. While elastics are functional and convenient, they wear out, lose their elasticity over time due to dryer heat, may not fit all head sizes, and most importantly, are not plastic free, which is something we strive for in creating our products.

STEP ONE
Use top strap to measure loop size. The loop should be approximately the width of your palm.

STEP TWO
Wrap top strap around bottom strap. Pull it through the loop.

STEP THREE
Loosly wrap the top strap around itself again, and pull through the smaller loop.

STEP FOUR
Tail of top strap should now be shorter than the bottom.

STEP FIVE
Adjust loop size by sliding the knot up or down the bottom strap.
